Deaf Kid Birthday Party Recap.

We always have a huge turn out for Owen's birthday parties.  He insists on inviting EVERY kid at school.  From the preschoolers on up.  They are so much a little family, it is too freaking sweet.

The festivities were held at an indoor Bouncy House place.  A dozen or so Bouncies make a LOT of noise, which meant the Deaf kids couldn't hear shit.  Which didn't bother them one bit.

"I know.  Black ear molds are out.  That Emo crap is so 2010"

"Imagine if Justin Bieber could sign?  Wouldn't you just die??"

"Oh yeah. I've noticed.  That scar on Owen's neck is soooo cute.  I wonder if he has any more!"

Messing with birthday kid via trick candles.  Win.

Iron Man mask?  Also Win.

Not to worry.  We did our parental duty and found a way to ruin Owen's birthday.

We got him a new bike.   He's so pissed.  He won't even look at the fucking thing.

Best Deaf Kid Shirt Ever.

Duh.

Done.

and about the bike? I got one for my 7th birthday. i rode it around and then fell and skinned up my knee really badly. Put the bike in the garage and wouldn't get near it for about another year. LOL.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR CUTIE PATOOTIE! (love that expression on his face when he's opening the mask!)

  3. I'll take a piece of saliva and chocolate please. Trick candles are always a hit.

I love how he hangs his head after he gets off the bike. He's got the pout down. It looks like the Iron Man costume was a hit.

  9. ..oh yeah, I was watching this deaf couple 'talk' (using sign) while they were eating and I thought of the whole "Don't eat with your mouth full" thing.........well, there has to be a funny joke somewhere in that.........what is it? You have to have a funny story on this subject, right?

  10. Um, I guess my invitation got lost in the mail. I like bouncy houses. *Sob* But bouncy houses don't like me.

Nice touch with trick candles and I love the Iron Man outfit!

  11. I can't decide what's more awesome: the Iron Man mask, or the look on his face when he's opening it...

  12. Good times : )

I have almost the exact same photo of my son in the king seat, wearing his new Iron Man mask.

We had a pretty good time there, until some little ass hole body checked my two yr old. Then we had the couple who just didn't come back for their kid. It all worked out though.

It's a blow up jungle out there.

  17. Awesome! Happy Birthday Miracle Boy! I love how when you are deaf you can talk with your mouth full and no one yells at you - or if they do you don't hear a damn thing! The trick candles are genius! I have a six year old little shit of a niece and I foresee her next birthday cake having "magic candles" :) That totally is the best deaf kid shirt ever! The bike is just a tragic, epic fail. How could you?? What were you thinking? A new bike?!?!

  18. Love the shirt! I want one. And some cake. And a bike. Why aren't adult birthdays this much fun? Happy Birthday, Progeny of Tulpen!

  20. That last bit with Iron Man was so awesome. There are really no words, or signs for that matter. Just pure brilliance.

  21. Yeah, nice parents, candles that don't blow out. Someday you'll be the featured post on his blog.

  22. Looks like a positively super birthday. Now where do I get me one if those throwns?

  23. Awesome! Although the picture of the oversized cocktail you HAD to chase the party down with is missing..

  24. Did I hear his little sis offering to teach him? Ouchie. No wonder he was pissed. Still cute.

  25. I love the birthday candles! The video was great, it was so funny to see how excited the kids got! Did he not want a new bike? Some huge attachment to his old bike?

  26. He's already a medical miracle, so why not a super hero as well! Love the Iron Man costume :-)

And that post-bike pout is downright dangerous. I mean, I'd be trying to figure out a way to get the kid a pony if I saw that on a regular basis.

When I was a kid, we were having a Christmas party at a restaurant with the whole family - only my uncle, my cousin, and my birthdays are right around Christmas - so we had three birthday cakes that my mom made. She put trick candles on all three cakes - the excess smoke from them set off the fire alarms. My grandfather, who picked up the tab, ended up paying the $2,000 fine from the fire department as well.

  27. In that last video, I think Iron man is saying, "Stop! You broke my heart with that awesome new bike. I can't deal with you right now."

Thank you for sharing his day!!

  28. Happy Birthday, Owen! Bouncy house always = win. No matter the hearing ability (maybe it's better when you're deaf because you don't expect to be able to hear krappe, then you try less and focus more on bouncing.)

  29. Love it

    Happy Birthday Owen!!

    I mean " Iron Man"

    that is all

  30. Happy birthday, Owen! Now I'm off to find a bouncy house place to host my 29th birthday.

  31. damn Mom and Dad how could you be so mean!? that walk off/pout was priceless. was that Bea telling him she would show him how to ride it?

Glad he had an awesome birthday. we also had Abby's party at one of those bouncy/germ pit places. My hubby wanted to die, he hates those places and would have been happier if we would have dipped the kids in bleach on the way out!

  32. Could his head hang any lower? I shouldn't have laughed but I did. Has he warmed to it at all? I didn't know that they made bikes that big with training wheels...I need one for Audrey who won't learn to ride without them before she's 5'7" if she ever does.

  33. Loved the shirt and the iron man mask face, awesome!

  34. Just found out Addi has moderate hearing loss and needs hearing aides. And I thought of you. And while I'm sitting here with my wine and grieving for my kid's hearing being not Normal, I can't help but think you'd tell me to just get the fuck over it and appreciate that she can hear at all. I may or may not have stated that on FB. HA! Anyway, just wanted you to know, I'm drowning my sorrows tonight with your voice in my head!
